What you will have by the end

You will know which resident and seasonal species live on or visit your estate, and you will have heard and seen a good number of them yourself. A few days later, a written species list arrives, with photographs where possible and notes on the habitats each bird relies on.

It is a surprisingly warm feeling to put a name to the song you hear from your window.

Living among birds you cannot quite name

Many people who look after land sense that it is full of life. They notice shapes at the treeline, hear voices at first light, and have no easy way of knowing what is what. Field guides help but can feel overwhelming without someone to point out what to look for.

Without a record, it is also hard to tell whether the land is becoming better or worse for birds from one year to the next.

Walking it together, by sight and song

Our ornithologist walks the estate with you, usually starting early when birds are most active. Together you identify species by what you see and what you hear. Binoculars and a pocket field guide are provided, so you need bring nothing but comfortable shoes.

Afterward, we suggest gentle ways to support the birds you have found. These might include nest boxes, native plantings, water sources and quiet corners left undisturbed. They are suggestions, never demands.

A morning in the field

  1. 01

Early start. We meet at your estate when the light is soft and birds are most active.

  2. 02

The walk. About four hours at an easy pace, stopping whenever something calls or moves.

  3. 03

Learning by doing. We show you how to pick out a song, a shape, a flight pattern.

  4. 04

Your record. A written species list follows, with habitat notes and gentle suggestions.

Well suited to estate owners, families and garden managers.

The investment

¥12,100 per visit · about four hours

The fee covers an ornithologist's morning, the equipment, and the preparation of your written record. We arrange payment details personally when we reply to your enquiry.

Included

  • A guided walk of about four hours
  • Binoculars and a pocket field guide
  • A written species list, with photographs where possible
  • Notes on the habitats each bird relies on
  • Gentle suggestions for supporting the birds

A repeat visit in another season can be arranged to compare spring and autumn records.

How progress is measured

The species list is the measure. It names what was found, when and in which habitat, so a later visit can be compared with it honestly. Across a spring and an autumn visit you start to see patterns: who stays, who passes through, and what your land offers each season.

We cannot promise that any particular species will appear on any particular morning. Birds keep their own schedules. What we can say is that the record will be careful and truthful.

Our commitment to you

If weather makes a walk unpleasant or unproductive, we will happily talk about moving the date. Before you decide, you are welcome to ask us anything about how the morning works. There is no obligation in asking.
